By Dr. Rebekah McCloud
When I was a kid, the old folks used to sing a song, “He’s an on-time God, yes he is. He may not come when you want him, but he’ll be there right on time. He’s an on-time God, yes he is.”
Just Ask:
- Abraham when God provided a ram in the bush, or
- The Children of Israel when God parted the Red Sea, or
- The Multitude when they were fed with two fish and five loaves of bread, or
- Ruth when God allowed Boaz to show her favor, or
- The Hebrew Boys when God saved them from the fiery furnace.
I bet the soccer team and the coach who were trapped in the cave in Thailand would say he’s an on-time God. I’m a two-time Cancer survivor, and I can say without a shadow of a doubt that he’s an on-time God, yes, he is! Anybody else know like me and the boys that God provides Guaranteed On-time Delivery? If so, give God a hand clap of Praise! Amen.
You know, God’s delivery is better than the Post Office, better than UPS and better than FedEx. The unofficial slogan for United States Postal Service is “Neither snow, nor rain, nor heat, nor gloom of night, stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.” God’s delivery is better than that. UPS’s slogan is “moving at the speed of business.” God moves faster than that. And FedEx’s slogan is “The World – On time”. My God is better than that. I believe his slogan is Guaranteed On-time Delivery. Amen!
So, what’s this got to do with money? I’m not going to quote all of Malachi 3:8—will a man rob God? Or Luke 6:38—give, and it will be given unto you…We know these scriptures. Instead I want to pose a single question. If we believe that God provides guaranteed on-time delivery, how can we not believe that if we give him the tenth, that he will still meet our needs? Let ask this in a different way. If we believe that God provides guaranteed on-time delivery, can we trust that if we give him our tithes he will still meet our needs? I say, yes, Lord, yes. Here are two reasons why I know this is true.
First, God’s word is full of promises. In fact, there are over 3,000 promises in the Bible. Joshua 23:14 tells us that not one of God’s promises has failed. Numbers 23:19 says, “God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?” And 2 Corinthians 1:20 reminds us that no matter how many promises God has made, they are always “yes” and “amen”.
Second, God is faithful. Hebrew 10:23, says, “Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. Lamentations 3:22-23 says in part, “His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” And Psalm 119:90 says, “Your faithfulness continues through all generations.” Amen.
Rev. James Bolton has a song that says, “Whatever you need God’s got it. He’s got it, and he’s waiting to give it to you.” Then the Chicago Mass Choir sings:
“Whatever you want, God’s got it
Whatever you need, God’s got it
Whatever you ask, Just believe it
According to your faith, You shall receive it
Eyes have not seen, Nor ears have heard,
The good things my God has in store.
There is no secret, to what my God can do
If He’s done it for me, He’ll do it for you.”
Grace, believe God for the impossible. Whatever you need, God’s got it. He’s waiting to give it to you and he guarantees on time delivery. Amen.
